Jack Joseland had big dreams and ideas

A tribute written by Tim, Kerry, Mal and Bella Joseland.

IT IS NOW over ten weeks since we lost Jack - no warning, no time to prepare, just a sudden moment of immense loss, broken hearts and a massive life-changing event.

Jack had an enormous connection with the Yaraka community that he grew up in and the whole of the central west and there was absolutely nowhere else he would rather be. He had big dreams and many projects on the go. He was enthusiastic about life and the road he had chosen, though often it was the road-less-travelled, didn’t worry Jack. He’d give it a red hot go anyway, and if he failed, he’d try again!

We believe we develop resilience to overcome adversities out here in the bush with drought, ill-health, general parenting in the sometimes difficult environment, and adapting to stress in general. But absolutely nothing comes close to losing a child, one you love so dearly and have had so closely involved in your activities and everyday decisions in business. This has zapped our strength and sometimes our hope to carry on.

The Yaraka community came together for Jack’s memorial at Kiama Park along with many others from away, and we feel so blessed that Jack was given a very fitting send-off that was a tribute to his life well lived.

So many people in our community, including the Longreach Regional Council workmen helped out beforehand and on the day to organise the setting up, the food, drinks, cleaning-up, chair placement, all with the Covid restrictions in mind. Thank you to everyone involved, we are extremely grateful.

We received over 200 cards/letters, messages, phone calls, visits, flowers, gifts, fruit, and food which offered comfort and relief for those first few desperate weeks. Your support, love and generosity have shown what a strong and caring community we live in.

We will not let Jack be forgotten and his numerous dreams and schemes we will work on fulfilling to the very best of our ability, with the help of friends and family. Thank you again.
